Monday: Question of the Week

Hello out there. So, as I am sure many other first-time bloggers feel when they start a new blog, I am feeling foolishly ambitious. So here's the plan: in addition to a weekly "Rockford Discovery," I am also planning on doing some other fairly regular weekly installments.

Now that I have you all waiting with bated breath, I will reveal the first weekly installment of... drum roll please... The Question of the Week!
This will be a weekly question posted on most Mondays that goes out to all you folks. Please type your answers in the comments section.

This week's question is: "Where is your favorite place to go in Rockford?"

Okay.... go!

as of right now, i would have to say the semi-abandoned tennis courts on the east side of Whitman St. Bridge (near the Y) http://bit.ly/aQ9vYd

i discovered them about 2 weeks ago with my roommate while we were long boarding (pics: http://twitpic.com/1ji5bc) (gps log: http://bit.ly/9VbKRN). there are no nets on the courts right now, so its just a big open area, smooth, flat, soft, and quiet (great for long boarding) (video: http://bit.ly/az7ozP).

its right by the the river with a view similar to the picture in the post. a big, curved, grassy hill wraps around the courts which blocks the noise from almost any traffic.

the rumor is the courts are being redone, which is kinda sad from my perspective because it wont be as great to long board there if they put nets up again.

I remember when I was living with my parents, one of my favorite places to go by myself and to enjoy the nice weather was to go to Baumann Park. I believe it is technically in Cherry Valley, sort of behind Cherryvale mall. It is a nice little "lake" with a bike path around it - you can skate, ride your bike, run, walk, sit in the gazeebo, or even fish!
